mermaids are dying

mermaids are dying has been an ongoing project where i have been making wearable sculptures from plastic waste. the coast has always been a space where i feel i can be entirely myself, where we can exist in our entirety. plastic waste is the one thing invading wild beaches, lacing the space with memories of the systems in which restrict us, harm us and kill us.

while collecting and removing plastic waste i take pieces to make sculptures - 3d impractical clothing that often capture the things that currently are alive in me from the systems that have left them behind.
